Make it, then try it

1. Cut the face and bands
Cut out the deer face, front band A and extension bands B, C and D. Start with A, B and C; D is an extra length if needed. Keep each band at its printed width.

2. Join the long band
Overlap the marked 20 mm end of A with B and tape on the back. Add C in the same way. Add D only if the band is still too short. Keep the bottom edges aligned.

3. Fit first, then close
Wrap the band loosely around the forehead. Mark where the ends meet with a comfortable overlap. Take it OFF before taping the final join. Trim excess length if needed.

4. Add the deer and pretend
Tape the lower back of the deer face onto the centre of band A, with at least 20 mm resting on the band. Keep tape inside. Check it sits comfortably, then invent a woodland character.
Woodland games for your deer crown
The deer paper crown has a coloured face and extension bands for fitting. Check the band gently before play, and remove the crown before adjusting a taped join.
Welcome someone to the woodland
Choose a woodland name. The person wearing the crown welcomes a visitor and describes one imaginary place to explore. The visitor asks a question, then the two invent a small adventure together.
Tell a trail story
On separate scrap paper, draw three places such as a tree, a stream and a den. Lay the pictures on a table. Move a finger along the route and explain what the deer finds at each stop. Rearrange the pictures for a different story.
Take turns as the storyteller
Let the crown mark whose turn it is to tell the next part of a woodland story. Before another person wears it, take it off and check the fit again. The crown can also sit on the table as a story cue instead of being worn.
Questions before you make it
How do I fit the printable deer crown?
Join extension bands to the front band with 20 mm overlaps, keeping their bottom edges aligned. Check the length gently around the intended wearer. Take it off before taping the final join; the band should not squeeze.
How many extension bands are included?
The making sheet has one front band and three extension bands. Using all four 180 mm segments with four 20 mm overlaps gives a calculated maximum loop of 640 mm. This is a template measurement, not a guarantee of fit.
What if the crown band is too short?
Use the optional third extension band if you have not already added it. If all supplied bands are still too short, use the deer face as a tabletop story prop. Extra custom extensions are not tested as part of this template.
Should I use glue or tape for the paper headband?
This pack specifies tape for the band joins and face attachment. Check that the ends stay joined before wearing it. Do not tape or trim the crown while it is on someone's head.
Can I make a crown for every child in a group?
Print a separate making sheet for each crown, then fit each band individually. Do not assume one size fits everyone. Prepare the cut pieces beforehand when the group needs help with scissors or fitting.
