How to Draw a Witch Hat
Draw a bent witch hat in six steps. Learn which brim line to erase, add a band and buckle, then try it on a printable practice sheet.
No special drawing tools needed. Go slowly and adjust the lines as you learn.
A bent hat with a buckle
Start with a wide brim, overlap it with the crown, then add the band and buckle. Step three shows the line to erase.
1. Draw a wide brim
Draw a flattened oval for the brim. Use a light pencil line.
Check: The brim is wider than it is tall.
2. Shape the bent crown
From the left side of the brim, curve upward to a bent tip. Return down the right side.
Check: The crown overlaps the back of the brim.
3. Check the overlap
Erase the back-brim line where it passes behind the crown. Keep the front edge of the brim.
Check: There is no brim line running through the crown.
4. Add the hat band
Follow the bottom of the crown with a curved band.
Check: Both ends of the band meet the crown edges.
5. Add a buckle
Draw a small four-sided buckle on the band, then a smaller opening inside it.
Check: The band line disappears behind the buckle.
6. Finish the folds
Add two short creases on the crown. Trace the lines you want to keep, then color your hat.
Check: The crown is in front of the back brim; the buckle is in front of the band.

If your drawing looks different
The brim shows through the crown.
Erase only the back oval segment inside the crown. Keep the left and right brim and the continuous front curve.
The buckle looks transparent.
Remove any band line inside the outer buckle shape. Draw its smaller opening last.
